Best known for creating character-driven documentaries, Ramona’s notable films:
- “Don’t Stop Believin’: Everyman’s Journey” (2012, featuring the band Journey and its new lead vocalist Arnel Pineda, won the Audience Award, 2013–2014 season of PBS’s Independent Lens;)
- “IMELDA” (2003, about the life of Imelda Marcos, former First Lady of the Philippines) screened at the The Sundance Film Festival.
- “Motherland” received a Special Jury Award at Sundance in 2017 and premiered the same year at the Berlin International Film Festival.
- And most recently, “ A Thousand Cuts”(in 2020, screened at The Sundance Film Festival) which profiles word-renowned journalist Maria Ressa who has fearlessly reported abuse of power in the Philippines under the Duterte administration.
Today, Ramona joins us to discuss her love and hate relationship with her beloved country the Philippines, the social media mayhem, “fake news”, her passion to tell interesting and inspiring stories and her courage to support press freedom in the wake of the extrajudicial killings in the Philippines.
