Tina Turner Tribute by Luisa Marshall
WOWS St. Louis, Missouri (Dec 8, 2019)
– Show Blog

The start of our trip to Missouri was already a blast on a Friday afternoon flying to St. Louis with a quick layover and a triple extra large pizza at Minneapolis St. Paul’s airport, Minnesota.

The whole band was so excited. Steve Marshall (drummer) and I had already performed at the Florissant Civic Centre in ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI! This time our daughters Kimi (guitarist) and Zenia Marshall (vocalist), my sister Tota Mendez (vocalist), Jojo Palermo (keyboard player) and Marlowe Mata (bass player) joined us on stage.

We were just swooshing the huge St. Paul’s airport with a lot of fun. Our new friend Mahari drove us quickly to catch our connecting flight to St. Louis. WEEEEEEEEE!!!! 😄❤💕

Tina Turner left Tennessee to live in St. Louis with her mother and sister. She met Ike Turner there… they married and he gave her the stage name Tina Turner. In 1960, the Ike & Tina Turner Revue toured, but when they split, Tina continued to have international success as a solo artist and become one of the best-selling singers of all time. Thus, becoming the inimitable “Queen of Rock N Roll”.

We didn’t have much time to explore St. Louis, but we were lucky enough to have chicken wings, toasted ravioli and catfish nuggets at the iconic building of St. Louis Premier Blues House – BB’s Jazz, Blues and Soups on South Broadway. We watched the band and just super chill with red, beer and lots of fried foods. LOL! One of the staff confirmed that Ike Turner’s band actually played on that stage as well as Miles Davis.

LATE NIGHT DINNER AT THE BB’s Jazz, Blues and Soups, ST. LOUIS!

The next day, the band made their way to the Arch and rolled along the iconic Mississippi River before sound check at the Florissant Civic Center. YAYYYY!!!! 😊❤💕

Zenia at the Arch.

As showtime got closer, we were in a daze. Would the crowd love us or boo us off stage? To our happy relief, the audience was more than amazingly kind to us!! They sang beautifully along to all the songs, danced and gave a thunderous standing ovation. THANK YOU St. LOUIS!!!! MWAH!!

😄❤💕 Rock N Roll

Not to forget my St. Louis Sexy Men who all volunteered themselves as soon as I asked for Sexy Men. Love it!

LUISA’S POST ON FB:

OMG! WE LUV YA, ♥️ST. LOUIS! Super overwhelmed… Standing Ovation! We never expected the amazing acceptance of the St. Louis – Tina fans to our tribute show. We felt like going to a death chamber minutes before the show. I said to myself… this is my second time to perform in this city where Tina Turner lived and started her musical career with Ike Turner in the 60’s. So much Tina history and I’m just super humbled to be invited once again to grace the Florissant Civic Centre stage. I’m not kidding… I was pretty scared.

SO PROUD of my sister Tota Mendez to do such great justice to Aretha’s RESPECT and “You Made Me Feel Like A Natural Woman”. She was soooooo nervous and worried if the crowd would accept her. HA!HA! The TINA fans just loved her… stood up and started singing and dancing!!! SHE WON THEM OVER!!!! YASSSSSSSS!!!!!😁

It took us a long time to contain ourselves after the show. WOH! Took a deep breath and started to feel so emotional. Our schedule was so hectic but we managed to inhale the most wonderful moment that we live for. APPLAUSE APPLAUSE!👏👏👏
