STB 230 Season 6 Premier HOTDOG, INTERVIEW w Rene Garcia

Luisa & Renee

Simply the Best – The Luisa Marshall Show is back with the season 6 premier featuring the Best of Manila Sound, the Hotdog Band! The band transformed the Filipino music scene in the 70’s by starting what is known as the “Manila Sound” and is credited with starting a revolution known as “Original Pinoy Music” or “OPM”. The band’s hit songs include “Bongga Ka, Day”, “Annie Batungbakal”, and of course the highly infections ode to the Philippine capital dedicated to the millions of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), “Manila”.

With the Hotdog Band in Vancouver, Luisa and her team were there to cover the special concert at the Stadium Club and also to interview Hotdog frontman Rene Garcia.

a Simply the Best Recap & Review

by Luisa Marshall

MANILA SOUND RULES VANCOUVER! Legendary Filipino Pop Rock Band HOTDOG Band frontman Rene Garcia and his Manila team of talented musicians delivered the unique sound & unforgettable hit songs with much more pulsating and electrifying rhythm beyond our expectations. The great crisp sound of the band reverberated through out the Stadium Club, Edgewater Casino, without drowning the ultimate familiar voice of leadman Rene Garcia.

The evening started at 7pm with Vancouver’s popular local talents such as “Papa Bear” Jerry Legaspi PapaBear Canada as host and Jerrica Santos to name a few, taking turns to warm up the enthusiastic crowd. Surprising, was the fun and enjoyable performance of some good old friends of mine Alexander Flojo and Rey Baldoz del Rosario in their local Fil Can band called TROPICANA Band!

Hotdog Band with Goldie

The show started with Rene introducing the band that led to an unbelievably crowd pleasing first song “Annie Batungbakal” that got the fans dancing right away. Then hits after hits such as “Bitin Sa ‘Yo”, “Ikaw ang Miss Universe ng Buhay Ko”, “Pers Lab” in between some carefully thought out cover songs performed by the band captured the audience. Some numbers that stood out was the band’s tribute to other OPM artists with a surprising bold showstopper “B.A.D.A.F. Forever”.

Stunning was the participation of former multi-awardee Retrospect member GOLDIE Marigold. Goldie Bugayong Castro added to the rock entourage of great musicians who generously gave her all to keep up with the energy of the fans til the end. The long awaited classic hits started with Manila’s pop anthem, “Manila, Manila” mixed with other popular OPM dance hit songs ending with an equally top charting hit “Bongga Day” in a 15 minute medley came down like a big thunder that struck the full house Stadium Club with fans jumping, singing and screaming for more.
