At the 2014 Golden Globe Awards with Luisa Marshall – Blog

Simply the Best – The Luisa Marshall Show host Luisa Marshall was invited to attend the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards. Feeling extremely lucky and grateful for the amazing experience, Luisa decided to share her trip with all of her friends and supporters. Enjoy! Here’s Luisa’s Golden Globe Blog.

Day 1 – Thursday, January 9th

Steve fitting a Tux

Luisa’s husband Steve fitting a Tux.

Arrived in LA still feeling a little sick from a virus that attacked my immune system just after my shows at the River Rock Casino’s Lulu’s Lounge. Steve’s son Justin picked us up at LAX and went straight to Mr. Tuxedo to get Steve’s suit. Mr. Tuxedo was actually pretty funny but he made sure that Stevie would absolutely look sharp on the red carpet. Then we visited Ralphs for the first time to get salad, bottled water and red wine. Feeling tired from early trip, we decided to just chill in the room and get a much needed rest.

Day 2 – Friday, January 10th

Luisa Shopping at Beverly Center

Luisa Shopping at Beverly Center

YES, I went to Beverly Centre while Steve watched the Lakers game at the Staple Centre with his son Justin and his fiance Geetha. OH MY! The Lakers lost to LA Clippers but Steve still had a great time eating popcorn during the game.

Looked for a dress to wear and shoes for the Golden Globes pre party by CBS. Found the dress I liked at BCBG. Took a cab to Courtyard by Marriott. Tried different attires to find the best set of jewelry from Geetha’s rare collection of costume jewelry. Decided to wear silver crystal accessories with my simply long sleeved black and white BCBG dress. Then of course, a gold set for the plain black BCBG dress for the Globe. I love the simplicity, comfort and sleek style of both dresses. At least, I could breathe.

Day 3 – Saturday, January 11th

Went back to Beverly Centre to purchase the BCBG dress and a classic skirt, 2 pairs of high heeled shoes from Aldo’s and a Coach black purse to wear for the Pre Golden Globe party. Dropped by the luxurious Chateau Marmont Hotel on Sunset Boulevard, West Hollywood for the first pre party. Met Ruben and Janet there. So excited to see legendary actress Jane Seymour and tv actor Aaron Paul (of the TV hit series Breaking Bad). There were so many people and food & drinks were overflowing. Too bad Steve and I were still full from our late snack at the Rock Sugar before we got there. However, we had 2 glasses of red wine and tried a bit of the delicious appys.

While getting comfortable, Ruben suddenly took us to another pre party. This time at the Soho House. Not far away from Chateau Marmont. On the way up to the venue, we were squeezed inside the elevator with the very elegant Jane Seymour and actor husband Stacy Keach. It was quite funny to have these actors on the same elevator… quite crammed inside looking at each other quietly. BUT YES, we had a good laugh when we realized nobody pressed the button to go up. We found a great spot with a beautiful view near the dance floor while a dj played dance music for hours. Once again, food and drinks were overflowing. This party was hosted by CBS so we were seeing and meeting some cool actors.

Luisa with Oscar Isaac.

Highlights: Ruben introduced us to Golden Globe best actor nominee Oscar Isaac from the movie “Inside Llewyn Davis”. He’s pretty cool. Had a pic with him. Then I spotted artist/NCIS Los Angeles actor LL Cool J… approached him and asked for a pic and he didn’t hesitate. He was the coolest! He even introduced me to his wife Simone . Then Jane Seymour suddenly appeared where we were. Got a pic with her, too.

The party started to get a bit crowded and we found ourselves face to face with Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts. I thought we seen more familiar faces but couldn’t remember their names. Guessed we missed Two and a Half Men star Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis. Cigars, candies, kebabs, wine, dessert, etc was overflowing. I helped myself a small plate of fruity pie or it looks like it.

Some more friends like designer Alan del Rosario came with friend Matt Heller. Decided not to stay long so we left at 11pm. Back to the hotel to get our beauty sleep… immediately.

71st Annual Golden Globes Awards 2014 – Sunday, January 12th

On the Red Carpet!

We checked the day’s itinerary:

  • 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards 2014
  • Hollywood Foreign Press Association
  • Sunday, January 12, 2014
  • International Ballroom, Beverly Hilton Hotel
  • 2:30pm Cocktails
  • 3:30pm Champagne Dinner
  • 4:30pm Doors Close
  • 5:00pm Awards Presentation

Woke up at 9AM! My body was screaming shower, make-up, hair! Thinking of going to a hair stylist but changed my mind so I did my own hair as usual. Thanks to my hair stylist Anita Lee for doing last minute trim and highlights touch-up before we flew to LA. Didn’t have time to go down the hotel’s retro coffee shop so we quickly ate some leftover salad and Thai noodles from Rock Sugar.

Leaving the hotel before Red Carpet.

Ready for the Red Carpet.

OH MY! We had a blast dressing up. Slowly going thru all… the new black BCBG dress, gold shoes and black clutch with gold trim. So proud of Steve… he remembered how to wear his TUX with his matching shiny black shoes.

And YES, we were ready to leave at 1PM. The Red Carpet and cocktails start at 2:30PM so we had lots of time to relax and be grateful for all these opportunities. We took some nice selfies to post on FB to surprise everybody that we were actually going to the Golden Globe Awards. Checking our passes or tickets before we leave. Decided to call Uber (taxi app) to get a black SUV to drop us off at the Red Carpet. We had a map where to go but driver didn’t know. Confused where to drop us off as roads were closed just to make way for the exclusive guests at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel. After 45 minutes of driving around, our driver dropped us off at the nearest sight of a Red Carpet event. We got off. Security checked my tickets and passports and purses. We went through like an airport screening. Woh!

We walked like we knew where we were going only to find out later on that we missed the Red Carpet entrance. OH NO! We got dropped off at the back meant for other personnel and staff, media, etc. Really tired and frustrated… calmed down and now trying to find a way to get back to the main entrance to meet Ruben and Janet. Hahaha! All security wouldn’t let us out. OH NO again! This will ruin our Golden Moment! We talked to some other nice security people and showed our tickets to show our Red Carpet access. They helped us to find a way to go out. On our way out, we finally met Janet. She’s about ready to interview the stars on the Red Carpet and ask what they’re wearing and who they’re wearing. Awesome!

SO HAPPY that Steve and I were able to walk the Red Carpet. WOW! I could never imagine that we were actually walking on it. There were lots of media, photographers and security!

As I walked, I couldn’t help but take a glimpse of the stars who were around. I kept my cool and asked Steve to take a few pics from our small camera. Sorry not allowed to bring our Canon 5D. We decided not to come as media but as invited guests instead.

Luisa Interviewed on the Golden Globes Red Carpet.

We met Ruben and he instructed his camera people people to take photos of us. Then he led me to be interviewed by Philippine Network GMA 7 correspondent and by the leading newspaper Philippine Daily Inquirer. After the fun interview, we moved on and decided to get inside while taking a glimpse of CNN and Entertainment Tonight or ET on the way in.

The Golden Globes Awards

Luisa's Golden Globes Dinner.

Time for the show!

We went inside the Beverly Hills Hilton ballroom which sits 1,200 people. It was beautiful inside. Exactly how I pictured it. We went to our table which was quite close to the stage. Maybe 5 tables away from the left side of the stage. We saw our names and we sat down. It was a beautiful spread on the table with our first plate of dinner, bottles of champagne, red wine, white wine, fancy bottled water. There were also books of the Golden Globe history and nominees and past winners and a beautiful gold box of Belgian chocolates GODIVA. Oh My! We felt so special. We met some new people in our table from Pennsylvania.

We also went inside the washroom to pick up a little gift bag from L’oreal. 3 lipsticks & a hairspray.

The people started to pile in the ballroom where the stars are starting to sit in the middle front of the stage. The stage wasn’t that big but it looked pretty fancy. There were lots of tables in the way back where all the tv stars are. The Golden Globe is really very, very exclusive. An invited star is only allowed to bring 1 guest. We are now down to the main entree… a plate of prime rib or more like a roast beef and grilled salmon. It was delicious! Then shortly after dinner the ceremony started with a big bang.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Comedian hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were hilarious in their opening! What a feeling to be a part of a most celebrated awards night in the film and television industry! I couldn’t even explain it. It was like a dream! I have been watching the Globes for many years in my living room and now I was witnessing it LIVE! It was terrible I had to leave during one of the breaks to go to the ladies room. I was scared to walk coz I might trip while all these people watched me and probably trying to figure out who I was. Quite a few of them were smilin’ at me. I touched my head to make sure I wasn’t wearing my Tina Turner wig. Hahaha! There was a long line up and I was blown away when I saw country superstar Taylor Swift standing and waiting in the line up in front of me. I almost wanted to do a selfie but decided against it. She was wearing a beautiful red gown. I was wondering how she can go fit in the small stall with what she’s wearing.

Of course, I missed 2 awards presentation. On my way back, I saw a lot more actors coming out from the men’s room, also late night host Jimmy Fallon. As I made my way to our table, I could spot so many familiar faces I have seen and watched on the screen for many, many years. It was a 3 hour show which started at 5pm til 8pm.

Golden Globes After Parties

Ruben and Janet reminded us to get our gift bags so together we walked fast to the counter where we were all excited to find out what it was. The guys get a black overnight travelpro suitcase full of goodies inside. The girls can choose the color of a Dooney & Bourke designer medium size handbag (black, brown and off white) filled with goodies, too. OH WOW! It was unbelievable. We dropped all those in their room while we went to the Globe’s after parties. Being in the company of famous Hollywood fashion designers like David Tupaz and Alan del Rosario, we were set to make the evening fun and glamorous.

We went to In Style/Warner Brothers/QUA (Pepsi’s Water) after party first! Now the party is just starting. As we approached the entrance and with so many security that was so tight, we were just so happy to be whisked in while hundreds were outside watching us getting in. The place was unbelievably packed with gorgeous people, celebrities, security and body guards. There was a big band playing in the corner. We stayed on the dance floor and danced the whole time we were there. Highlights of that party… Got a rare opportunity to party and rub elbows with Golden Globe best actor winner Jared Leto, Golden Globe nominee for best original song and country superstar Taylor Swift, Golden Globe best supporting actor in a mini series Jon Voight, and legendary Golden Globe best supporting actress in a mini series Jacqueline Bisset. Oh, just finished glass full of margarita when Ruben gathered everybody to move to a another party.

We went to the second party by Netflix. I had a great time just sitting down. Had another drink. Said hi to Pierce Morgan. Had a great picture with Best Actress nominee Lupita Nyong’o. So many familiar faces again. We had a blast at the Laura Mercier photo booth.

After an hour we moved to another party. HA! This time is the FOX’s after party. WOW! what an awesome venue. Huge! Great food, more wine! All the guests looked so super fabulous.

This time I was wearing my gold flats. That was it. I had to get rid of my gold stilleto shoes while on our way to the 4th after party of the night HBO. The venue was outdoor and very very cool. The dance floor on top of the pool. AMAZING orange colors all over.

Big screen on the entire walls. It was Steve’s party as he met NBA basketball star Lamar Odom and I snapped a pic of them together. We met another friend Hollywood designer Oliver Tolentino whom I interviewed a couple of years ago. We had a great time just chillin’. Then it was time to go. My mind said no but my body said yes it’s time to go. Went back to Ruben’s and Janet’s room to pick up our gift bags and thanked and hugged this wonderful Hollywood couple for inviting us to experience this super GOLDEN MOMENTS that we would not dreamed of doing in a million years.
