TINA TURNER CELEBRITY IMPERSONATOR
LUISA MARSHALL NEWS 2008
Hot News: Local Artist Appears on Oprah's Biggest Show Ever!!!!!!!
Vancouver's Tina Turner tribute artist Luisa Marshall got a call from Oprah's producer and requested her to dress up as her idol, Tina Turner, to the taping of the biggest Oprah show ever at The Colosseum, Caesar's Palace, in Las Vegas last weekend. After 30 years, Tina and Cher, were reunited on stage again since their famous duo stint in the 70's. The beautiful theater was filled with enthusiastic fans of the two icons who announced their surprise comeback concerts this year. The invited Tina and Cher tribute artists and impersonators added more glitz to the already very glamorous and exciting event of the year which will air on May 8.

Before Tina and Cher came out, Luisa was called to go on stage to warm up the crowd of 4,000 screaming fans. Wearing her fanciest sparkly dress made by famous NY designer CD Greene, Luisa didn't hesitate to entertain the crowd when requested to sing Tina's hit song Proud Mary with no musical back-up. She danced on her signature high heeled shoes and asked the crowd to sing "Rollin'..." till the end of the extremely energetic number. Yes, that was her first acappella show that became one of the highlights of the show. What a moment of sheer pleasure when she was interviewed about her forthcoming shows. Months ago, Luisa dreamed of performing on that stage she called the Celine Dion's stage and last Saturday's experience proved that sometimes dreams do come true when you least expect it.

However, Luisa and her party of Tina Turner tribute artists and celebrity impersonators were more thrilled when their idol announced that she would do one last tour this year for all her fans after she was finally convinced by legendary actress Sophia Loren and Oprah Winfrey. The very youthful looking Tina, who's 68 years old, performed Nutbush City Limits with her band and dancers and then came back to sing Proud Mary with Cher, 61 yrs old. Both of the icons agreed that age is not a big deal. They are happier and more matured and have beautiful relationships. Also, during the show, both revealed how much money was left for them after their well celebrated divorces from their husbands. It was great to hear their stories the very first time these two legendary singers met. What a show.... yes... this is the biggest Oprah show ever!!!!!

* Freezing Tina in Dawson Creek - Feb 8 - 9/08 - From Manila to Dawson Creek was not actually Luisa's plan but she and Steve almost froze to death if not for the exquisite food they had at Chances Casino. It was very rare for Luisa to do a pub or bar appearance but she couldn't say no to Kennedy's Pub in Delta, March 15/08. For sentimental reasons, she decided to take the offer and she had so much fun performing to a packed pub of Tina patrons. The connection was just tremendous and the whole evening went through the roof.

Great shows and venues happened during the cold winter of 2006. Actually, this year started with an unexpected show of Luisa, as the Queen of Rock and Roll, on Feb.11th in the Queen Charlotte Islands. The Masset Legion rocked all night packed with very familiar faces, friends and family. The show was the talk of the town. Then a series of shows followed. Luisa flew back to Vancouver and traveled to Kelowna, BC, to bring her tribute show to the Creekside Theater, Feb.18. Luisa and her dancers did two powerful shows that day ( one matinee at 1:30 pm and one main show at 8 pm.). The audience was thrilled and they enjoyed all the wonderful Tina Turner songs.

Two huge corporate events got the Tina experience. On Feb.21st, Luisa with the Big Night Out Band and the Hotleggz Dancers entertained the staff and management of the very popular spot, Harrison Hotsprings Resort. People went wild at the great ballroom of the Westin Bayshore Hotel, Feb. 23 when Luisa surprised the BC Mortgage Brokers Association with “Simply The Best”. Once again, the Abbotsford TRADEX Car Show has invited Luisa for 2 days of fun and entertainment on Feb.25 and 26.
The A-Channel TV Morning News in Victoria, Vancouver Island, BC, featured Luisa on their Friday morning show on March 3rd. Dressed in casual clothes, Luisa had a wonderful time singing “What’s Love Got To Do With It” and “The Best” despite the late night ferry schedule the night before. The show at the Langford Legion, Victoria, was another huge success. The following night, March 4th, the Coast Westerley Hotel Ballroom in Courtney, proved to be a great evening for Tina Turner fans. Luisa has somehow created a great following in that town. That night was a heavenly mixture of young and old singing and dancing to Tina’s “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” and “Addicted To Love”

"Luisa hanging with Bruce Williams of A-Channel News Victoria"
Luisa made a quick trip up north to perform in Quesnel (Quesnel Legion Hall - March 31st) and Prince George (Prince George Legion Hall - April 1st). Her tribute to Tina Turner has remarkably made a huge stir and and fans came and packed the halls despite the numerous events happening in town. That night in Prince George was so special when old friends came and talked about the good old days.
On April 3rd, Luisa boarded the famous Singapore Airlines to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Crown Princess Hotel located in downtown Kuala Lumpur was an awesome place to stay for two weeks.

"Picture of the famous Twin Towers of Kuala Lumpur by Steve while he was waiting

The VIP treatment was fabulous. After a brief rehearsal with the band and dancers, she performed for a huge corporate event on April 8th Saturday. The Company, a leading construction company in Malaysia, featured Luisa at the Grand Lagoon Ballroom of the popular Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel.

"Check out this 1500 seat beautiful ballroom. Note the red carpet goes to
the Prince of Malaysia’s personal chair in front of the stage."
The Prince of Malaysia was amongst the elite crowd of 1,200 people applauding, smiling and singing throughout the hour and half Tina Turner tribute show.

"Note the Prince is in the yellow coat. Some important friends with him."
The following week was real hectic for press conferences, special TV show appearances, radio interviews, rehearsals, shopping, and sight-seeing.

"Here is one of Luisa’s appearances at HOT TV (Hello on Two) in Kuala Lumpur.
She was being interviewed by female host, former Miss Malaysia, and the male is
former Malaysian Idol. Yes they follow American Idol full time over there."
On April 14, she made a special appearance at the Deustch Haus for it’s VIP clientel. Great food and great ambiance! Luisa as Tina Turner was a big hit in Malaysia especially for the secretaries week April 14 (lunchtime show - Friday) and 15 (dinner show - Saturday) at the Crown Princess Hotel’s grand ballroom. Everybody had a great time! It was great opportunity to meet beautiful new friends and fans after the show. Thanks to all the wonderful sponsors like Nivea and Singapore Airlines to name a few.

"Luisa performing with her new band and dancers from Malaysia at the

Despite the cruel jetlag, she managed to rocked a full house at the Star of the Sea Center in White Rock, BC, on April 22nd. With the Big Night Out Band and the Hotleggz Dancers, she enjoyed performing to a crowd that supported the White Rock Arch Peace Rotary Club to build a school in Kenya. People cheered and danced non-stop all night long.

"Luisa receiving a plaque for appreciation of her performance at the 10th Annual gala Dinner & Dance IK Shandar Shaam 2006 for raising funds for the BC Children’s Hospital by organizer Andy Basi."
Then another big event invited her to raise funds for the BC Children’s Hospital. It was such an honor for her to be a part of the 10th Annual Ek Shaandar Shaam Gala Dinner and Dance, Fraserview Hall, in Vancouver. The crowd was surprised with her grand entrance with four good-looking RCMP escorts to the stage. That was simply the best!!!!

Luisa brought her stiletto heels and her powerful show to entertain the Canadian Forces that brought good cheers at the MFO, Multinational Force and Observers, Sinai and UNDOF, the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force, Golan Heights during the X’mas holidays. Her contribution was well received with a great line-up of talented Canadian entertainers such as Canada’s legendary blues rocker Matt Minglewood, Quebecer diva Guylaine Tanguay, Ottawa’s sweet-faced country Lisa Cameron, and Toronto’s most wanted comedian Terry McGurrin. Yes, they rocked the desert!!!

“I can honestly say that this tour has been an unforgettable experience that I will always cherish the rest of my life. I was so glad I went on this trip that gave me an opportunity to touch not only my fellow Canadians but also the rest of the other nationalities who are willing to risk their lives for world peace.. Not only have I learn a lot about these two countries (Egypt and Israel)… I have realized how much Canadians have greatly contributed to all the various peacekeeping projects all over the world.. Yes, I am proud to be a Canadian!!!!”
“And yes, I feel so good to be a part of this show. My gosh, it was a true blend of unbelievable talents. We have established great camaraderie and true professionalism that made our show a big hit in that part of the world.”
“To all the cast and crew… Carl, you’re one hell of a producer! Thanks for inviting me again in your roster of talents. I love the hotel accommodation. Guylaine, what can I say… the multi-talented singer. Thanks for singing back-up vocals for me. You make Celine Dion look bad. You sound great and you’re beautiful!!! You go, girl!!!!
Matt Minglewood, wow!!! It was a pleasure to share the stage with you. You rocked!!! More Tim Horton’s coffee for you…lol
Lisa, my Mona Lisa, behind that sweet smile was a truly talented musician. I was super-amazed with your guitar playing and sultry voice. More power to you!
Terry, you’re not only a funny smirkin’ guy on stage but also a real fun person to be with. We all have fun with you. Great working with you!!
And the wonderful dancers, ooh la la! Julie, Nancy, Suyin and Christian, all of you have the high energy with a touch of class that made the show class A. Keep up the good work. I’m looking forward to working with all of you in the future.
O my favorite band, the incredible 4, Maggi, Ian, Sylvain, and Marc!!!! I thought you guys were great the first time we worked together in my 2004 European Tour… I was wrong. You guys are FANTASTIC!!!! Hope to sing the other Tina hits with you next time. More power!
The show would not be complete without the PA and Light crew. Matt, you know you rocked the house no matter what. Thanks for making me sound like Tina. Aldis, you made me look like the real thing. Hope you send me some nice copies of the pics you took on stage and off stage. France, it was really nice knowing you. You’re just Miss Everything Girl… from being the spotlight tech to the tablecloth manager. By the way, I should have bought more sets. I really enjoyed your company. Remember our last time together at the airport in Toronto? We were freaking out trying to catch our connecting flights back home. Precious.
And of course, not to forget the two important people, our escort officers. Mark, thanks for your understanding and sensitivity to our needs. We’re artists and sometimes difficult to define in some ways but you have made it possible to get some issues resolved in a respectable manner. And Lori, you are nothing but wonderful to everybody! Thanks for all your generous ways of communicating with us. You should be a psychiatrist, or a counselor, or even a diplomat. It was a real pleasure hanging out with you. You’re REAL and that’s cool!!!!”
“The highlights of this tour have made its mark as my greatest trip so far. I would never even in my dreams thought that I would see the Pyramids of Egypt. It was amazing!!! I have to pinch myself many times that it wasn’t just a dream. The beautiful Mosque of Muhammed is meticulous. The Egyptian market is unique and I got really exhausted from all the razzle dazzle. The MFO’s Rocky’s Flea Market is a bit hit. You might think I’m crazy, but I bought a nice looking carpet and other souvenirs. And, oh, I learned some wicked country line dancing. Imagine… me learning all this in Sinai. The show at the MFO, Sinai, was great!!! Everybody had a good time. Some of us were in tears touched by the Italian Commanding Officer’s speech honoring our presence as peacekeeping, too. Oh, that was precious. I met and talked to all other nationalities, Columbians, Hungarians, Fijians, Americans, and Australians. They loved the show and they were happy to meet all of us.”
“The trip to Israel from Egypt was exciting and stressful. Our tour bus broke down in the middle of the desert in a long stretch of highway protected with barbed wire and an Egyptian military vehicle supposedly escorting us. Yes, we were scared and worried but despite this, we were able to remain calm and the guys joked around for three hours before our rescue team arrived with a UN bus. Although I managed to get a little bit of sleep, that was the longest 3 hours of my life. I prayed to God for a safe trip and promised to do more peacekeeping singing engagement If I live through this.”
“The crossing of the border from Egypt to Israel wasn’t easy. Tired and hungry, we were ready to eat anybody alive if they’re rude to us. Luckily, I was spared the tight inspection of the Israeli customs officers. They didn’t even open any of my bags and luggages. They didn’t even look in my big box with my carpet and a huge MFO towel in it. I waited for an hour and half for everybody to go through security. The Israeli officers opened their luggages and went through almost everything. I stood beside one of the officials and told him I was part of the group and my bags weren’t inspected. I was stunned by his answer “ because you are the best!!!” Now I haven’t met this man before and he absolutely didn’t know who I am and what I do. I was completely puzzled by that response coming from an Israeli officer in one of the toughest borders to cross in the Middle East.”
“We traveled almost 18 hours including the unexpected 3 hours of being stranded in the desert. Israel is so much different from Egypt. So modern, so cool. We arrived at the Sheraton Hotel almost midnight. Had a quick snack and crawled to bed. I woke up the next day with this unbelievable view… I was standing on the balcony of my room staring at the historic Sea of Galilee. It was a beautiful day and the sea looked absolutely blue. It was gorgeous!” The long trip after all… was worth it. “Operation DANACA is Canada’s contribution to the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF). The Canadian contingents serve on the Golan Heights between Israel and Syria to supervise the implementation of the disengagement and cease-fire agreement. We did a couple of shows for two nights in a row on the Golan Heights. We had the most wonderful time. Everybody gave us a warm welcome. We spent our last day touring Jerusalem. Now, this is beyond everything I wished to see. I could spend days and days talking about this special place. All I know is that this touched me more than anything else with a real strong unbelievable force that never happened to me. It touched my heart and my soul. And I thank God for all my blessings! And I thank God for all the men and women who are willing to give up their comfortable lives and beautiful families back in their own countries to be in an uncompromising position out in the desert to be a soldier of peace.”
“Leaving Israel wasn’t easy. The Tel Aviv airport was so strict and I understood why. We kept our cool and we got through security after a couple of hours. I dropped by the duty free store while waiting for the rest of the crew. I was looking at some stuff when a beautiful Israeli saleslady approached me. At first, I thought she was mad at me for putting my bags down on the floor while I was looking around the store. Instead, she was smiling and asked me if I was Tina Turner. I was so stunned I started laughing and handed her my business card. How can I explain to her I’m a Tina Turner tribute artist. Really, I didn’t even think I looked like Tina that time. I was wearing a hat and a pair of big sunglasses to hide my puffy eyes. I looked like a total mess with all that traveling we did that day. However, it’s an honor to be mistaken for somebody I adore that I felt really blessed paying tribute to her.”
“I came back to Vancouver the day before my birthday. Despite the super exhaustion and jet lag, I felt I was the luckiest person in the world. I love Canada, I love my family, and I love my job”!
Here’s a brief summary of our October - November – December Tina Turner Tribute shows…. We would like to thank two new venues that believed in us… the Mountain Shadow Pub and Boardwalk Casino and Games. The clientele of each venue was absolutely wonderful and we enjoyed the warm reception. We hope to see you again. November 5, 2005, Saturday, was another busy day for the Royal City River Boat Casino, New Westminster, with a packed show room. The sold-out event featured the one and the only fabulous Tina Turner impersonator Luisa Marshall with her Vegas Hotleggz Dancers. What a night that was!!! Luisa’s first song of the night, “I Wanna Take You Higher” brought another level of high energy to everybody in the room. The fans were ecstatic, yet sincere to be a part of an unbelievable Tina experience. You have to see it to believe it !!!
Luisa made a quick trip to Vancouver Island’s wonderful towns of Duncan and Sooke. This time Duncan welcomed Luisa with a big bang ! Silver Bridge Travel Lodge ballroom ( November 25/05 ) is sold-out !!! The hotel’s management and staff were so helpful in making that evening went on smoothly. Our personal thanks to Duncan couple and long time friends, Carolyn and John Hills, for putting up all the posters around town. Oh, by the way, the food in the restaurant was simply the best. New fans gathered in the beautiful ballroom and Luisa appreciated everybody’s thunderous applause to each and every song by just totally rockin’ the night away. She promised to go back to do another show in the new year.
Then, of course, there’s Sooke. We traveled the next day ( November 26/05 ) to this sleepy little town and stayed at a beautiful bed and breakfast lodge. The view was stunning. Unexpectedly, the Royal Canadian Legion had a great turn out. Everybody bought their tickets the last minute. All the Tina Turner hits woke everybody up and Luisa’s expertise on working her crowd well was greatly appreciated. The audience couldn’t believe they were actually watching her in Sooke.
Luisa’s last show in Vancouver was on Dec.4, 2005, X’mas party of MDA, (MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates) at the Hyatt Hotel Ballroom for more than 500 people. Her Big Night Out Band and her Vegas Hotleggz Dancers joined her in a non-stop dance music that went on till the wee hours of the morning. It actually felt like New Years Eve. Great food, great looking crowd, great atmosphere!!!! People cheered and danced all night whether the band played Tina Tuner songs or the band’s top 40 hits featuring Madonna’s latest hit song “Hung Up” to B-52’s immortal hit “Loveshack”. The last group on the dance floor kept asking for more. What a fantastic party!!!

They would have never known the difference.”

“Luisa, you were definitely the hit of our fabulous event last Thursday evening! You will see from the photos on the web site mentioned below that you had the entire crowd rockin’. What a smashing finale to a dynamic evening. We loved you….your energy …your talent……your generosity of spirit in pulling the two guests onto the stage with you …your fabulous voice and ….those legs! My soon-to-be son-in-law was very jealous that the “more mature” men were on stage with you! You gave our guests a memorable send off at the close of the evening and they are clamoring to come back to another UNICEF function……an event planner’s dream. Many guests have asked how to get in touch with you!
Thank you for contributing so much to help educate some of the world’s most vulnerable kids. We are humbled by your talent and are indebted to your generosity. Thank you, again”

FEBRUARY 2005
Luisa’s exciting trip to Chicago was unforgettable. She made a lot of wonderful new friends who flew from different parts of the world to witness the taping of Oprah’s Wildest Dreams episode with Tina Turner. The Tina Fans Club breakfast at Lou Mitchell’s restaurant in downtown Chicago was a blast. Luisa met two wonderful ladies, Elle from Holland who is the president of the International Tina Turner Fans Club and Laurie from Corpus Christi, Texas. There were also fans from Germany and Los Angeles. Of course, her best friends Larry Edwards and Donovan Clay were also there.
After the breakfast, everybody headed off to Oprah’s Harpo Studios. After an excruciatingly thorough security check, everybody settled themselves in the posh holding room. The taping started with Las Vegas’ famous Tina Turner impersonator Larry Edwards dancing to “Proud Mary” with some ladies from the audience as back-up dancers. Then Luisa (minus her Tina wig) came next on stage to sing “The Best.” Her performance prompted the studio crowd get up on their feet as they sing and dance along with her. Most of the audience members thought they were watching the real Ms. Turner.
The highlight of the entire show was when Oprah introduced Tina Turner before her first song, Luisa’s performance footage during the earlier taping was shown on the big screen on the stage. Tina looked very stunned when she looked at Luisa from the screen and blurted out “Oh my God! Who was that?” Her priceless reaction to Luisa’s resemblance to her made the crowd laugh.
Proud Larry’s email read “I would like to congratulate you for doing such a wonderful performance on stage at the Oprah Winfrey Show…. It was great seeing Tina’s expression on her face watching you perform “Simply The Best!” Tina was AMAZED!!... she asked several people who is that performing?... Luisa it’s an honor to call you a friend… Something I will always treasure… What a treat for you & I, performing on the same stage as Tina on the #1 talk show Oprah Winfrey Show…. Best wishes to you… You’re Simply the Best!”
Unfortunately, Luisa’s footage ended up on the cutting room floor and was not included in the Feb.4 episode of Oprah. But despite that fact, she gained more fans out of the studio audience.
On a better note, Global BCTV News Host Mike McCardell featured Luisa and her Chicago experience on the Feb.8 episode of Newshour. After Luisa's news segment, Newshour Deborah Hope exclaimed, "She really looks a lot like Tina!" Newsman Tony Parson quickly agreed, "She does, doesn't she? That's pretty good."
Last month, Luisa with her dancers and band did a successful benefit show at the Celebrities Night Club to help raise funds for the Red Cross Tsunami Relief Aid. Then on Jan. 29, she surprised the fans of the Vancouver Giants Hockey team at the Pacific Coliseum with her live performances of “Proud Mary” and “The Best”.
On Feb.10, Thursday, Luisa and her dancers are invited to grace a sold out fundraising event, UNICEF's "Bollywood Hollywood" at the Roundhouse, Yaletown. Then on Feb. 19, Saturday, she will once again entertain the patrons of Pitt Meadows' Jolly Coachman Pub. Also at The Central City Brewery Pub, Luisa will perform together with her Big Night Out Band on Feb. 26, Saturday.
